Adopters Agreement and PWI Specification

Promoted by National Semiconductor and ARM, and made possible as a result of the contributions of key semiconductor and mobile phone manufacturers, the PWI specification is available immediately for adoption on a royalty-free and license-free basis. Companies interested in adopting the specification can do so by submitting an adopter's agreement (pdf 145KB Updated 12/15/03).

Why Adopt PWI?

PWI -

  • Yields quadratic power savings by enabling deployment of advanced power management techniques, such as adaptive voltage scaling, dynamic voltage scaling, and back-biasing
  • Provides a royalty-free, license-free open standard interface that will allow for re-use of technology and the rapid deployment of power management ICs
  • Makes optimal use of resources in the design, planning and production stages
  • Expedites the adoption of components by handheld device manufacturers and allow for rapid, high-volume production

Adopters can use the PWI specification to develop PWI compliant products, and receive licenses to do so.
